Biography
Diego Imbert started to play the violin at the age of six and then the electric bass guitar at fifteen. It is only as of 1993 that he began playing the double bass (classes at the Conservatoire in Paris and through training courses with Jean François Jenny Clark et Eddie Gomez). He won the silver medal at the Concours International de Contrebasse de Capbreton in the summer 1999. After having lived in Nancy, he settles in Paris in 2000 and takes part in many musical groups. He was a member of the Orchestre Régional de Jazz en Lorraine from 1992 to 2000. He collaborated with the Paris Jazz Big Band (PJBB) created by Pierre Bertrand and Nicolas Folmer. He was a journalist for Bass & Drums and Guitare & Bass. He also participated in classical concerts with the Orchestre de Massy, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Lorraine and the Orchestre Colonne. He plays regularly in Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, the USA and Canada with groups such as the « Gipsy Project » of Bireli Lagrène (and with B. Lagrène’s Trio since 1998), with the Sylvain Beuf Trio along with Franck Agulhon (since 2000) or with the Flavio Boltro Quartet (since 2004), with Stephane Huchard « African Tribute to Art Blackey », the Franck Avitabile trio featuring Aldo Romano and also with André Ceccarelli "Le coq et la pendule-Tribute to Claude Nougaro". He can also be heard playing with musicians such as : Archie Shepp, Enrico Pieranunzi, Antonio Farao, Sara Lazarus, Jean-Michel Pilc, Pierre de Bethmann, Guillaume de Chassy, Rosario Giuliani, Alain Jean-Marie, Sylvain Luc, Michael Felberbaum, Olivier Ker Ourio, Baptiste Trotignon, Elisabeth Kontomanou. Having a teaching degree in jazz, he taught at the Centre Musical et Créatif de Nancy (CMCN) and then, as of 1991, at the Music Academy Institute (MAI). For the latter he ran classes, workshops, seminars, master-classes and summer training courses. He also taught for many other jazz training courses (Trèves, Lisieux, Semur en Auxois) and teaches regularly at the CMDL (Centre des musiques Didier Lockwood). For the contemporary dance company « La Compagnie du Ruisseau », he composed and played the music for the performance “Marmonie” and created the musical score for « l’Ombre d’un doute”, "Chemins de traverses" and "A4-Interaction". He composed original music for the Téarto Theatre compagny, "Barre à mines" and "Godasses". He has also played for several film scores ( “Les Enfants”directed by Christian Vincent, “Un printemps à Paris ”by Jacques Bral).
